The Artistic flies of Mark Romero

Thank you very much for posting the pics Bill, much appreciated. Actually my birthday is Thusday the 16th. The flies above are just a small selection of the way i do my Pike flies. i sent them to Japan yesterday. They will be auctioned by Fly Fisher (the KILLER Japanese fly fishing mag.) Magazine, in an auction that is being held to raise money for the earthquake/sunami victums. Again, these flies are never done exactly the same way twice, as it is virtually impossible. They are a very simple process.........sometimes with a tail, sometimes not.........usually with. Same deal goes for the tandem/trailor hooks. Any type of simple body will work.....crystal chennile is fast and easy for instance. Then i just start slapping hackle...........alllllll kinna saddle hackle, and usually finish with a collar and a nice big fat head with or without eyes, with or without sparkle finger nail polish on the heards.....i do all kinna different heads on them. Give or take (and exempting head work), takes bout an hour to do one. And that's with having already plucked all hackle and layed it out ahead of time. i also mix in throughout the hackle or over the top, different flash materials to use in the dressing as well. Don't make a damn bit of difference what you throw at a Pike. If he sees it, he gonna eat it. Obviously these are not as durable a fly as a hair wing version or anything made with synthetics.........but these suckers drive the fish BONKERS in the water. Strip, pause, strip strip, pause..........QUARENTEED strikes.
Most are tyed on the Partridge Ad Swier Pike hooks, 6/0 & 8/0, both nickle and black, or Owner bait hooks, with Gamakatsu Octapus trailor hooks or various kinds, colors and sizes.

Mark, i don't know what to say other than thank you, VERY much. Not for keeping anything having to do with me alive or important, but for helping the spirit behind the flies to live on. The flies are the same as the music. They come from the creator, through me, to the world. And there's a reason for that. And that's all that matters. i'm just a messenger..........and it's the messege that's important, not me. What you've established here with flymphforum is a truely VERY SPECIAL thing........it's a precious sancturary in a world gone crazy.....in some ways, and flymphforum is doing something about it, collectively by way of all these angles we know as members. Thank you.....

Wicked looking flies my friend, fantabulous!!!
I reckon they'd work on quite a few species let alone pike, Barramundi, bass and that's not even venturing into the saltwater scene. Lots a toothy critters in the salt here that'd gladly chew on one. Thanks for sharing and inspiring again mate, lots of food for thought I can't wait to get behind the vice...

Ray ~ The photos that Mark sent to me had captions that read "Honey", which I would guess is a reference to that golden thorax shining through.
