A small soft hackled green caddis

Post by Johnno » Wed Feb 25, 2009 11:11 pm

Simple but seems effective enough. I would imagine most would have a similar pattern. This is mine.

Hook: TMC2499SP BL #16
Thread" Unithread 8/0 green
Hackle: French Partridge neck
Tag: Gold Holographic flat
Rib: Gold or dark green wire
Body: Green dyed hare's fur mixed with regular and a pinch or two or white antron

Very nice dubbing blend (and the fly's not too shabby as well :D).

Just a heads up... if you come across it, Wapsi's Life Cycle dubbing has an excellent shade for green caddis that blends antron and other fibres for a very close match to the natural. It's 50/50 synthetic and natural so it might not register on the traditionalist side of the ledger, but it is a very close match.

I have not seen the Wapsi dubbings down here - don't even know if they are available, but I'll keep an eye out.

Great looking little fly. I like the hook profile. It adds character to the tie.

Beautiful Fly and nice pic. I plan to make some for myself to fish in the Wharfe next May.
There will allways be a solution.
