That was not the original plan.........but "see there." THAT'S the point of the thread. :)

Interesting fly Kelly, I know a lake where that would work a treat in smaller sizes. There are lots of sand cased caddis present there and I reckon this would be a killer. :D

Mark- I hope you feel better soon mate, certainly not a good way to start the New Year. There are other ways of gaining attention than fainting. ;)
Seriously I hope that 2012 brings some good health your way. It's good to see it hasn't stopped your time behind the vise. Your last fly is awesome and the head is picture perfect. :D I can't wait to see all the photos for the dressing you listed...

How did I see in 2012? OK, so I'll be breaking the thread rules a bit with my first 2012 contribution. Reason - thoroughly inebriated after seeing in the 2012, I decided to sit down at the vice at around 2am. Creative state of mind not present  , I tied one that reminded me of a long lost friend and our last shared fishing trip to the Tellico river basin in 2000. Had another inoculating dram and rolled into bed. Woke up with a slightly sore head and photographed the aftermath. Happy 2012 folks...

It's a small world--that country is practically my backyard. I've spent some great days in Bald River gorge, where yes, there are (were) browns the size of your leg. (Catching them in skinny water, of course, was a whole 'nother ballgame, though. :) ) As I alluded, though, I think the general consensus is that fishing isn't quite what it was a decade ago--our riparian vegetation really took a hit when the non-native hemlock adelgid started to take those big trees down...it's simply not the same forest that I remember even five years ago.

Mark, I get confused with so many recipes, then you have to go back and hunt them down. Can you edit the recipe with the photo in that particular post?

Fly Fisha, loved your fly, and the concept. Oh, concerning the last fly I posted, yes it is kinda ugly smuggly, but I designed it for the fish most of all. Oh, and I will be trying something like that in a smaller size for trout, panfish, bass etc...
