Got the eye on.........painted it............then went ahead and did the body and the ribbing last night 4 a.m. of whatever it was, before my back just drove me to taken pills.........finally got in the bed bout 6 a.m. & slept all damn day. But the fly is KILLIN" so far.........the veiling for the bead is Argus fibers from the lighter side of the tail feathers both top and bottom, but i painted the bottom fibers light blue, and the upper ones yellow. The support dubbing for the beads veilings is from those people at Troutsman and is a golden/amber/yellow typea color.........and then the body dubbing transitions into a grey/purple/all whatever else is in there. They make some KILLIN' dubbings. The rib is Lagartun silver flat braid. And the body has been seriously picked out. i've got three different colors of Rhea chosen to do the wing (two colors) and throat/Spey (one color) hackle with.........that's next.
i just did the wing.........and it was one of those Light Bulb moments.............the first feather went on prefectly.....3rd or 4th try  but the second feather was bein' a real bastard......so i stumbled onto a whole other approach.........and bingo. It's way wacky, but i like it. Now for the throat.....and perhaps multipul collars.....we'll see. ;)

Have you gotta name for this (i.e. - are you working on a theme) or are you going to name it when it is finished?

thass funny Ray............i virtually never name a fly until after it's finished...............but right as i was reading your question(s)..........a name poped right into my head. So here it is............"Midnight at the Oasis." ;) ..........can you hear it?

i'm three pics behind now.....i'll try and get started catchin' up tomorrow.....1st the one you were visualizin'.....then the one on the Reinhold hook.....then Midnight. 8-) .....oh btw.....for the most part..........it is the bead that is the theme..........remember, "life in your face everytime you wake up." That is why i "spend" so much time, and put so much effort into finding these beads.........of course obviously, (just like the hooks) i cannot always afford to get the ones i'd like..........but that's ok, as it is a metaphor for life as well.......
and like Rah said, "Don't let the cross, cross you up. Let the cross, help you GET across." (that top wing feather for instance :D )

OK, the throat is on.....or in i should say.....tyed in. It's all i've done all eve., as far as the Oasis is concerned. Sometimes it be's like that. Ray, do you remember sayin' somethin' bout multideminsional a few flies back? Well, this puppy fits that bill. It's like the three elements of music, Melody, Harmony, & Rythum.....not nessessarily in that order.....in fact rythum has always led the way in terms of the evolution of the art form, and that which it is so much more. "Think" about it.....there's a reson for that.
Well, these flies are the same way.....they have three elements in terms of design.....length, width, & height. After that, it's just like the music as well. Colors.........the bead being the key signiture.....the recipe being the form (AABA, a bues, whatever).....and the proportions and flow, being the tempo or time signiture.
Every fly/composition has to have give & take/call & response.....and the different twist & turns are all part of the message.....
Sometimes each element is equal in dominance.....other times, a certain element stands out and directs traffic.....leads, while the others follow. Like the hot spots in the flies bout our current swap.
Well, it's time to figure out what to do bout the collar(s)........& then try to get a KILLER head. ;)
btw.....there are 5 red tipped GP Crest in the tail.....a long & a short & three even shorter set in a triangle in front of those. 8-)
