Thanks Mark. I appreciate the encouragement, but I could do better. I struggled with the lighting. I took eight photos (with flash, without flash, playing with aperture settings, etc.) to get this one. I was inspired by the black backdrop in Martin's recent photos and clamped my mole skin behind the fly. I like how the fly stands out against the background, but it limits the amount of light the camera has to work with. I mounted my camera on a tripod and manually focus the lens on the body of the fly (autofocus would lock in on the hackle nearest the lens). I used a 10 second delay for the shutter release (hands free). The main trick to getting a sharp picture is making sure the camera does not move during the shot.

Hey thankx a lot for the info..........it's really helpful..........if i EVER finally get my photo station set up right, and can stop having to ask Misa to tak all these pic of my flies.........i'm going to have to use a tripod...........one of the main reasons she takes such better pics that i do is because i just can't be as steady as she can......or more accurately put, she don't shake like i do .........i'm actually gonna stop tyin' in public at some point because of it........it's embarrassing.........but anyway. That's a great pic of a great fly..............btw, (and i apologise to all who get left out, i simply can't bogart.....well, i could, but i won't ), i'm going to ask Bob Mead, if you and Bill can tye with us at the Mayfly Club day...........so don't forget what you'll need.....light, extension cord, etc., etc., etc. JUNE 9th........put that on your calendar. i'll introduce Bill to Bob at Somerset in Jan. Wish you could come down for that.

Ray, regardless of the NAME.... the fly is a BEAUTY....I love it. I am gonna have to try something similar soon. Mark, I know EXACTLY which monkeys you are talking about. They are nice looking too, until they turn around. You can see their flaming red hiney a mile away....

I think the photo looks very good. Practice makes perfect, and macro photography is not the easiest thing to master. The depth of field is very short, therefore, complicating things. Taking more than one shot, as you have done, helps to get the result you want.

Body - Hares Ear Dubbing on Red Pearsall's Silk (prepared Leisenring style, tyed and wrapped forward to hook eye)

Very cool tye...I'm curious as to the length of that dubbing brush, though--the dubbing would cover, what, maybe 3/4th's of inch of the thread?

At any rate, an outstanding pattern--you and Bill are really spiking sales of micro-tubing these days.
