Recently I meet this gal who said she had a cabin tucked far into the woods next to a creek. She and her husband have been fly fishing for over 20 years and knew all sorts of small creeks. She mentioned they were going up to the place mid-week to fish and relax. We chatted for about 15 min. and finally I asked her if she ever fished wet-flies or flymphs. She laughed when I said flymphs, but I assured her this was a real fly. I asked her to wait a minute while I went to my car and returned with 15 different flies for her to try. Partridge and orange, blue and green, a few grouse and black, several Whitlock squirrel tail and a few others. Yesterday I ran into her and she was very excited to report that the flies worked exceptionally well! I asked if she had a single or double set up. Single of course was her reply and I proceeded to show her a Cast of Flies set up. She was amazed that you could use a dry fly as the indicator.
Point: If you don't share we can't turn people on to the old and very successful flies.

Thanks for turning me on to all these successful flies guys.

If she doesnt share her cabin and creek we need to hunt her down and get those flys back!

Great post, Ariel. I get the same thrill out of sharing these flies with someone on the stream. Earlier this summer I was fishing a local stream and came across a guy who was new to fly fishing. I opened my box and pulled out a number of flies and handed them over to him, wishing him luck. His mouth fell open as I handed them over. I've not seen him since, but hope the flies catch him a few fish.

I think he was just stoked to get a few different patterns to try.

If some of you tiers randomly handed me so flies on the bank, I'd tuck them away. They'd only see the light through a plexi-box.
