Re: Artistic JazzFlies
Yes Vicki, it's a donation fly.........i always bring a box or two, of flies for donation.....but this is the first time at the National/International (FFF this year) that i'll be bring mostly (there's a bunch of flies on eyed hooks as well in there), flies tyed on blind eye hooks, for donation....bout 20 total. And for Sowbug next year the same thing. i always bring flies but it'll be the first time they will all be on blind eye hooks. Of course i'm using hooks and bead matches that i have more than one of......although i never tye the same fly twice, exactly. i do sometimes use the same hook & bead match-up. That's when i'm using reletively inexpensive hooks and beads and gut. i'll get a pic up of the (Conclave), box once it's full before we take off. You can look for the pick when you get back. Look for it at the Conclave Flies thread on the Cabin page. Then i'll do the same in March before Sowbug. That pic will be at the Sowbug thread, Cabin page.

Re: Artistic JazzFlies
Vicki, change of plan.........i'll be taking the pic of the Conclave box next and posting it HERE. Reason being.....i just stared taking the flies outta the corks and loading them into the box, and discovered the box wasn't going to look full enough.............so. i'm gonn have to take somma the Sowbug flies and add them to the Conclave flies, and redo them later on........no big deal at all.....but the box for Conclave just has to look right and nice and full. i'll prolly only have to add a half dozen to 10 flies to fill it up nice. i can catch that up in a week easy. So look for the pic tomorrow or the next day, here.

Re: Artistic JazzFlies
Turns out i had to raid it just a bit heavier than expected, plus i been tyin' more for the Conclave box. It's goin' over 50 flies now. OH! and another change of plan. i think i'll post the pic of the completed box full, over at that thread. Just seems a bit more fitting. So look for it on the Cabin page. "Preparing for Conclave."
i may not be posting anymore pics here at this thread until after we get back. It's so damn hot here, it's all i can do to keep from passin' out sometimes..... and we gotta teach kids tomorrow and for three days next week. Plus Misa has me tyin' flies for the team..........streamers and damsel nymphs for the two different lake venues they have on the intenerary for this year's championship in Colorado. We're leavin' just two weeks from Sat., so i really need to get on a day scheduall and stop stayin' up all night every night. Those long drives in the heat is a bitch. So.....easy.

Re: Artistic JazzFlies
I got a really cool surprise in the mail yesterday. I really have a hard time imagining composing these kinds of flies, and they are more impressive in person. Thanks, Mark for such a nice fly.
These are hard to photograph with my little trout fly set up. I'll work on it. I should have something more robust anyway for larger flies.

Such nice detail. Close up warranted.

Re: Artistic JazzFlies
Thank you fellas, and especially you William for postin' the pics.........i just got home from a Sowbug Committee meeting..........boy this is gonna be the BEST Sowbug ever..........in March. We've moving the show into a new and bigger venue at the county fairgrounds. Even the tyers tables arangements are going to be different than ever before with 4 table circles....two and two tables facing eachother in square circles if that makes sense. Seven of those set-ups, with 56 tyers tying at all times. And we have room for 27 vendors, and some of them tye at their booths as well.
Damn, i just stole ("hijacked" ) my own thread....................."somethin' to be said for consistancy."
Btw, that dubbing used in the fly above is from Montana Fly.....i don't much like it.........but i never waste materials..........they have some dynomite colors, but the fibers are so short...........i like LONG fibered dubbings, for artistic flies especially. Somethin' you can pick out til the cows come home. Ya'll gotta see this fly i just finished this morning at bout 5:30 a.m. The body KILLS!
LOVE those pics William, Tkx. again ........damn, DON'T scratch the tatoo....... .....got a haircut today.......now where's that dang interstate?
YA'll keep sayin' those prayers for Mark.....ya hear?

Re: Artistic JazzFlies
Here's the one i just finished this morning.....the bead reminded me a disco ball when i first spotted it........wherever that was......can't remember now.....i think it was a bead shop in Branson, Missery. So anyway, i just decided to call it Studio 54...........when i first moved to N.Y.C. in '81, Studio 54 was still jumpin' every night. i never did go there though.......wasn't my kinna scene. i was in the Village Vangaurd every night or some other legendary Jazz club, or two, or three, or four. Back in those days you could very easily hit 5 clubs a night, between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. and that was before the after hours joints opened up. They opened at 5 or 6 a.m., and back then they even had the after the after hours clubs, that would open at noon. Joints with names like The Praying Mantis.....The Venus Fly Trap.........it was an amazing time. i'd come crawlin' in the bed at 2 p.m., get up at 8 p.m. to be at work by 9:30 p.m., and get right back to......... ..........work. i could of never survived it all if i hadn't been outta town so much on the road.
