Hank,

"POP" is my shorthand for "Partridge-Orange-Peacock". There are other colors in the series, but I generally refer to them as "POP flies". I designed this pattern.

Ray, Howdy;

I've been reading my way up the threads, getting the idea but a bit disjointed...

Almost feel like a dog chaseing it's tail... :lol: Huff-puff I'll get that rascally thing yet puff-huff, pant-pant.

I really like the look of these flies, I've only got round to looking at this string, lost my reading glasses and I am toiling with a pair of head clamp binocular magnifiers I got from Orvis a while back. They help but I need the reading glasses, I have not tied a fly for over a week, today I get my new specs.
Is the baby bug wrap like stretch floss or one of the similar lycra flosses,
e.g. FlexiFloss? I have quite a lot of Lycra floss of various colours and makes.
I have been thinking for some time of simulating hackle stalk or stripped peacock herl bodies with it. The under-body using flat tinsel is very good, did you have an under-body of thread on the others?

Donald - yes, Lycra and Flexifloss are the same material as what I used. The material is tyed in at mid shank (no thread underbody).

I started using Flexifloss on wet flies in 2005 or 2006,
I had previously used it on buzzer (chironomid) patterns
and never finished my experiments with it when my cataract
problems intervened.
I know that I have about a dozen colours stashed away somewhere.
Now I have to do a bit of detection.
This is my first use, as a rib, on a March Brown Spider from 2005.

Now for a re-start and hopefully some interesting flies. :idea: :idea:
