Very cool fly, and IMHO the photo is good too; next thing we know, you'll be cooking for yourself ...

Re: Artistic JazzFlies
And the second fly for the day is.....can you believe it.....i actually got 4 hours sleep after being up for 24. This was tyed maybe a month ago. Alex Hayes hook again with a Gamakatsu Octapus trailer..........the bead veiling and wing is all P.B. with just a bit of yellow flash on top. The forward two thirds of the body is antique gold twist ribbing over antique gold sparkle chenille. Tail is schlappen.....bit of dubbing in front of the bead, Ostrich herl behind. Can't remember what feather that is i used in front of the saddle hackle up front.....some kinna waterfowl.

Dang Mark, you is one prolific artist, and always exploring new designs. Have you every played around with tying on tubing? You could really do some wild stuff with three dimensional stuff if you did...

Re: Artistic JazzFlies
i've tyed salt water flies, and streamers using that braided tubing stuff (you know the stuff), for body material..........and done just a couple artistics using that stuff. i should do some more of that. If your actually refering to tube flies in some way or the other......i have NEVER tyed a tube fly in my life. And don't plan to. i'll never take the importance of the hook out of my design style. i just hope i can live long enough to use up all the hooks and beads i have before i can't tye anymore..... ......which is one more reason i'll be on the road, less each year from now on. i want to finish these flies.....complete the investment, litterally and figutively.

Some innovative touches on this one, such as the use of schlappen for the tail and two-tone butt wraps to mirror the contrast of the shoulder hackles. Creativity, "willowhead" is thy name...

Re: Artistic JazzFlies
You must be extra inspired these days. Maybe your upcoming trip? These are both beautiful. I especially like Envelopment. It reminds me of standing in a beautiful little stream that I fish with lots of very green vegetation. The patterns on the bead make me think of the reflections on the bottom as the water flows over that vegetation. Wish I was there right now.

Re: Artistic JazzFlies
Thankx Bill..........Vicki, i'm always inspired.........sometimes i have to deal with personal issues............but i was born inspired. If the key word was "extra," you might be right in terms of the trip. The last one that was as long as this (actually quite a bit longer), was last year when we went to N.Y., then to Ontario for a show, then had a show Idaho Falls, then another in Ellensburg, Washington (after which Misa flew to South Carolina for the IWFF Festival and then back to Seattle) and then we went to British Columbia/Vancover Island, etc. and then drove back to N.Y. to do the film, and then Misa went to Poland while i did a show in N.Y., and then i went to "Spey Nation" upstate, then we met up in Ireland and did a show.............whew!.............. ...............so Yes. i am very much looking forward to this trip and i am READY TO GO! Hate that i gotta sit around here for three more weeks still............ ...........i BEEN ready to go for at LEAST a week already......... ............so the only thing to do is tye. You just make sure you have a great time on your trip. More in a PM.

There's a white duck (of "some" kind), feather underneath that Mallard feather up front. This is a fairly recent tye.....month or two ago.

w-h, Howdy;
Sorta (close but not quite there), like watching an underwater explosion. Ya get all the froth at first
and then when it settles down there is sometimes a deep blue (if the water is deep enough),
boil effect in the center, then more of the bubbly stuff ...
