Re: Struggling
Redietz that river would be the Damdochax River fished by Hanna Belford head guide and owner of Damdochax River Lodge. It is 17 miles of pristine waters. You have to fly in my bush plane and you'd be the only person on that whole river filled with steelhead. Other trout near by. But since I don't do the steelhead in my neighborhood I just wanted to stick with the trout of a smaller size.
Redietz are you related to the author?

No. The only author that I'm aware of with my name wrote oceanography texts.fflutterffly wrote: Redietz are you related to the author?

If you were on a island, flanked by wildly full trout rivers, and you could only have two each of each of following, aside form your best mate, food and beer, what would it be.
Pick two types of hook. Two type of hackle. Two type of dubbing. Two thread.
Hook type
Hackle
Dubbing

fflutterffly, Howdy;
Ok, ... I see, same old problem (for me), that lead to 4 ex-Ms. hank's .
One of those She Said ... He Heard kinda things ....
In the first asking of the question, (“There is little money to be spent on so many tying supplies and I'm sure the subject has been breached before, but please humor me. If given a choice which would you use:
you can only pick two in each category:
Hook
Hackle
Dubbing
Thread color”).
you were not quite so clear (specific) and when you led off with the money is tight bit …I reckon that's why the suggestions about prioritizing what to procure, or maybe it was my suggestions that helped to channel those thoughts. I can accept blame (I've grown).
This second asking directs us (me), to think more in terms of ordering at a Chinese Restaurant (2 from col. A and 2 from col. B
etc.). ("Hank my question is the same as posted. So let me ask it one more time.

I am still only a beginner at this ( no real practical experience), so I’ll sit back and enjoy the answers and learn as well.
Thanks for asking … both questions.

Me too. I would choose the same, except I like mole more than muskrat. Essentially the same...more or less.letumgo wrote:Bob has already answered for me...

Re: Struggling
Flutter, your hooks will go out early this week.................curved nymph, alllllll kinds of nymph and wet fly hooks, allllllllll kinds of scud hooks, small (short) streamer hooks, alllllllllll kinna emerger hooks including vertical eye, retainer bend hooks, colored Salmon hooks, Saltwter hooks, bass hooks, just a bunch of all whatever..............a LOT of hooks.........................but your gonna have to take some way serious time to sort them.............you've got everything from size 20........to at LEAST 2/0 and bigger. And your going to have to find a FLAT, very well lit (lighting), with a white paper background or something like that, keep it all in the center situation, so nothing hits the floor type a deal while sorting..............your gonna have to spread out and take your time........it's allllllllllllllllllllllllllllll in one bag, everything..........EVERYTHING. So be EXTRENELY careful not to have them end up in the vacume cleaner. The little ones are pretty darn little. Sorry i hadda do it that way......but it took me as much time as i can devote to that as it is. Enjoy.....

Re: Struggling
This is a bit of a fun question...
Hooks: #14 Hanak 200 (wet), #14 Hanak 130 (Dry)
Hackle: Hungarian Partridge; Ginger Hen
Dubbing: Natural Hare/Squirrel; holo-dubbing (rust)
Thread: Sand, White or Pale Yellow 12/0; Olive 12/0
I could cover a lot of flies with this combination. Throw in a bit of dryer lint and Bob's yer uncle!

Re: Struggling
Belly Button fuzz never hurts......attache a couple fried fleas knees and one or two sauteed alligator tits, then wash it all down with a mug of panther piss, and you DEFINATELY be good to go. Course, you gotta know where to go to get all that, AND good service.
