I call it a Tups but it realy is a Tups-var.

Hook: Drennan Super specialist no 10
Thread: Pearsall silk yellow
Thorax: Tups dubbing: mix of 50% hare from the belly, red sealsfur (sub) 25%, yellow synthetic fibers 25%
Hackle: Whiting Brahma hen Golden straw

I wonder if anyone else ties a Tups and how do you mix your dubbing. I mixed mine with an old coffee-blender
There will allways be a solution.

Excellent! One of my favorite patterns, too.

A very nice fly Ruard, there are a lot of versions of the Tup's mixture.
T he original is a bit problematical, unless you know a very laid back ram.
I did a bit of research on this subject a couple of years ago.
I got the most info from Courtney Williams book "Dictionary of Trout Flies" [1950].
He was in contact with Skues, who had advised Austin to ad a little red dubbing.
I have the results some where, I'll dig them out.

Only criticism, your picture size was a bit much for my on-line connection -
4.4MB for a picture?

I have found the info. It was on my web-site, forgot to put it on the menu.

There are 3 or 4 pages.

Hi Donald,

Sorry for the size of teh picture, it is actually 1 MB but for a line connection pretty big indeed. thank you for the research on the original. I am wondering what evrybody uses if you cannot get the original

Thank you all for the kind words about my Tup's. I got a trout on it last weekend and also a rainbow on a little PHT and golden plover.
