The Artistic flies of Mark Romero

Just a little experiment of a fly.......to see if a wing like that would be ok, with the majority of it being the fluff at the base of the feathers.....i kinna like it though. The fluff blends well with the collar hackle and the dubbing, to form a cohesive natural earthy colors, and soft look. Tyed this a couple weeks ago. The tag is antique multi-colored fine oval tinsel, same thing for the ribbing. The tail is all Amhearst Pheasent crest. The dubbing is a blend.....

Mark - I like the JC wing, and am fascinated by the bead, tail and blue dubbing at the back of the fly. Beautiful strokes!

Thankx Ray.....the blue in the rear is Ostrich herl.....there were 9 pics of this fly taken and this is the only one worth posting..... Each pic showed something well. None of them showed everything well.......... ......say la vee. Btw way, i've named it now. It's called, BINGO!

You're right on about the JC fluff, Mark ... it melts together with the body perfectly. And that saucy tail really sets off the butt. Top notch project.

i'm always so far behind (dozens and dozens and dozens of finished, yet unphotographed flies around here), but i figured i'd just throw this one up. Happen to have this one pic of it.........was tyed a week or so ago. The angle of the fly in the pic, only Misa can explain, lol. But anyway, such as it is........... Think i'll call it, Flight of the Phoenix.

I love Blue Eared Pheasant! Such a graceful feather. Lovely fly, Mark. I like the angle Misa chose.

Great hackle and I really like the way the head mimics the bead. And Misa's got the "eye" for looking at things, for sure.

Thankx Bill.....the eye/bead thing is always paramont.......but actually the bead is the lead for the entire dressing. The premis of my flies is, i am the hook............or the foundation for all else. The bead is life, in your face, every morning or time you wake up.....are you gettin' outta bed or what? And the rest of the dressing is "How" you deal with that. Thass what the flies are all about, along with the fact that each fly is a solo.........never to be played the same way twice. Not compositions.....solos. The parts (movements) are the compostions, written in that they already exist.....like the form of a "composition." But the end results of a finished fly, is the solo over the top of the chord changes. That's why the flies are tyed in an improvisational manor.....not overly planned out. A good solo has to be pure, and honest and spur of the "Bright Moments".....played with split second timing and delivered as a message. It's from the creator, the the artist, to the audience.....and fortunately.....somebodies gotta do it. Accepting the mission wasn't difficult.....all that comes with the territory is fun, and very rewarding.

Last night, well.....this morning, i was up til bout 9 a.m., and did 6 flies beginning round 10 p.m. Tonight i'm still workin' on the first one. But, i decided to use a Lucas hook, and it's the only black 9/0 Nobel S XXL i have left........and i swaped out a larger bead i had matched up with a smaller hook, and switched it with the smaller bead i "was" going to use with the Lucas hook. Why........well, sometimes you just get these crazy ideas to do something, that wasn't part of the plan. This bead is not expensive, and normally i would use an expensive bead with an expensive hook.....but not this time. Sometimes i just get the "Inner Urge" (GREAT tune by Joe Henderson), to do something against the grain. It could be a rather simple bead with a KILLER hook, or a KILLER bead with a somewhat ordinary hook, or any "matching" that is not part of the regular program. So, we'll see if it works or not. All i have finished so far, is the tag (Kreinik), tail (four Peacock neck feathers, cupped two & two), bead, & bead veilings (light blue CDC feathers, 3 above & 3 below).....it's going slow.....but that's fine. Who's in a rush?
