Mark (willowhead) sent me some more hooks and I promised him I'd try my hand at his Artistic JazzFly style. Not having much in the way of "fancy" materials on hand, I've created my first JazzFly using stuff I do have, which seems somehow appropriate ... improvisation, don't ya know .

Hook: Gamakatsu B10S "Stinger", #6 (from willowhead)
Thread: 8/0 rusty brown (from Uni)
Tag: "Creole" Antron (from William)
Butt: Peacock eyestick herl dyed suphur orange (from Nature's Spirit)
Abdomen: Bead (from willowhead)
Thorax: Same as butt
Hackle: Flank feather from English grouse
Head: Thread wraps with multiple coats of Griff's thin/thick
Eye: Yellow dacron line backing colored with olive marking pen

Hey Bill, that's really cool, man. Colorful, clean and perfectly executed. This is great. I was just about to send you a note to ask about your trip but I see you're back and well at the vise. Glad to see you're back. This turned out very nice.

i saw this fly before all ya'll..... Bill sent me a preview, to my regular email. And Vicki, your right.....i LOVE it. Very creative, and so nice. The proportions are very cool and the colors are great. It's an original and uniquely Bill. Keep 'em commin' my man.
Bill, if you'd like a few blind eye hooks, and some eyed Salmon hooks, which you can cut the eye off of, or use normally.....just lemme know.
We have to take off again in about a week.....headed up to our place in Roscoe, N.Y. to finish the project we almost completed last June. The Japanese T.V. people want a few more interviews and some more footage on the water. We'll be back here in June sometime, after we pack up some more stuff to bring down here. Then we can finally stay home for a minute, until time to go to Montana in Aug.

Here's a couple for fun and because we're headed north soon.....

As you know, i'm often terrible with names.....the first one (on the extremely long shank, almost a foot), just reminded me of a bird.....so i named it after Charlie Parker......i was "all-over".....the shank with stuff and he was ALWAYS all-over the horn with beauty and love........so why not.

The other fly was just a study in color.....the bead, as is almopst always the case........pretty much dictated my thinking.....beads just have a way of talkin' to you..........so i used one Hot Orange and one Hot Fusia Pink tippets for the wing.....sometimes i just like to contrast colors in a wing, and do opposite things on opposite sides.......i mean anybody can match color on both sides of a fly..................but that's just to easy and somewhat boring.....to me anyway. Besides, if your not always experimenting.......you just wasting time.....

ONE More for the road.....although, i think i may be out of pics space at this thread, or actually on the site in general.......we'll soon see. This fly i tyed for Rusty Dunn. He's a well known tyer on the FFF Circut.....we see him at the Sowbug, the FFF Gulf Coast Council Conclave, the FFF International Conclave, the Smallmouth Rondezvous in Tahlequah, OK., the Toldedo Bend Tyers Get-Together, the FFF Southern Council Conclave, and various other shows. His wife Carolyn, who passed away a couple years ago, is the lady who made all the table clothes for a lot of us (tyers throughout the south), who bought them ($75. each), from her, and who use them on our tying tables at all the shows. She donated all proceeds from the sales of the table clothes to a children's charity. She was a really good tyer herself and they are/were both FFF Certified Casting Instructors as well. Rusty was in charge of tyers at this year's FFF Gulf Coast Council Conclave in San Antonio, so i tyed this fly to thank him for all he's done for the FFF over the years, and just for bein' such a nice person. Not to metion i owed him one. He sent me a bunch of beautiful parrot feathers a while back.....
This time i used the same dubbing brush material as i did for the body of the Sunami fly.......but in a much different way.......more or less as a tail, or "extended" body. i had this HUGE fairly long Gold hook layin' around.....so i used that as well, and i painted little flecks of orange Sharpie paint on it as well.........nutty i know......but hey..........it's all about BIG FUN!

Mark - Is that kori bustard feather, in the tail of the fly you call Fantasia? Love it! I hear that stuff is as rare as unicorn mane.

When I first looked at the picture of the yardbird fly, I did have a sense of how long it was. Once I took a look at the wing, I got an appreciation for the complexity. The proportions are perfect. I love the detail of the dubbing and ribbing in the front section of the fly.
