Nice splash of red, like a brilliant red lipstick. I'm curious about the process though. You started out with the blue shades (I love the jay feather) and ended with the bright red. Was that impulse or calculated? Anyway it definitely fits with the name. I like it! :D

Thankx guys.....Ray, actually the hooks for both of these two flies are not expensive and either is almost anything used in their dressings except the JC.....and i used nails from about a C grade JC neck on that fly. i've got 9 JC necks, but only one of them is an A grade.
Vicki.....remember the concept......i'm the hook.....the bead is life in your face every time you wake up, are you gettin' outta bed or WHAT?.....and all the rest of the dressing is, "How" you deal with that. From that point forward, everything is improvised. Once i put a bead and a hook together, i stop makin' plans and just GO! At that point, the whole tyin' room is up for grabs.....materials wise. That's why i try to keep as much of everything as i can within sight.......i mean there's just "Stuff" everywhere.....as much as i can keep close at hand as possible, without things ending up on the floor.....just piles of dubbing, synthetics and flash material of alllllllllll kinds, spools of everything imaginable, and "Feathers EVERYWHERE."

Once we were extremely late for a gig. Actually i had the whole band there on time, but our boss (the bandleader) was late. VERY late.....we were in Boston, and the club was PACKED, and not one person was bitchin' or had asked for their money back. But the club owner was freakin'.........he calls the bookin' agent on the phone and is bitchin'......the bookin' agent just tells him to have the boss call him when he gets there. So Bu' finally shows up.....and the club owner is still freakin' out, and tells him he has to call the booking agent. SO, with the club owner standin' right there, Bu' gets the agent on the phone and says this.....without ever even givin' the agent a chance to say anything. "Jack, you wouldn't believe it.....a heard of wild trukeys.....Feathers EVERYWHERE!".....Click. And he hangs up the phone.
then he hits and everything is cool..... :D

Here is the latest one done on one of the Chestertown hooks I picked up from Mark. The head could of been better, the loop smaller, but I was just kind of winging it. I still have to work out proportions for the longer hooks but that will come with practice.

Enjoy!

Ah shucks!

It started out life with a different plan. It was going to be more classic streameresque ;) but I didn't have the best feathers for wings and I needed to fill space on the front so what you see is what you get. So I guess I started with a plan and then went with it. Just gotta learn when to stop!

Very astute....."Knowin'" when to stop is critical in ALL art............Misa has a hard time with that when she paints.....you just have to know when enough is enough. ;)

Vicki - That fly is flat-out gorgeous in every detail! The fly is a lovely combination of a streamer and a classic salmon fly, which is very appealing. Love it... Great color combination, too.

Thanks Ray! It's a colour combo I really like.

Knowing when to stop is something I struggle with sometimes too. That's when you just walk away and come back later with a fresh perspective.
