Re: Artistic JazzFlies
This is the fly that has the wing feathers sent to me by Ray and the Argus Pheasent wing slips from a feather sent to me by Ruard, in the dressing. This fly was something i came up with out of the sadness i was feeling for the people of Japan and their situation. It's a weird fly , but the situation there is weird......both the fly and the situation are odd.......out of the ordinary, and strange. But i had to do something, other.....more.....than just send money.
i'll be letting you know more soon, about an auction that Japan Fly Fisher is going to be holding in it's Magazine to raise money for the victums.

I am happy you were able to use the feathers Mark, in this wildly expressive fly. It may be my imagination, but I can see the influence of the tsunami in the the fly. The design is tumultuous and flowing (compliment). I really like it.

Re: Artistic JazzFlies
Yes, it's almost just like this pile of debris headed forward.............with no direction and unstopable............i still get so sad every time i think of what happened..............i remember being up at 4:30 a.m. here and watching the Tsunami live on the computer..........and feeling the same way i did when i watched the second plane hit the World Trade Center building live. It was SO unreal that it was..............NO WAY Jose'............this can't be real..............then you realize it is..........
It was just so horriffic.........and you just feel stunned into a numb wanting to disbelieve............but you can't.......you have to deal with it. So that's how this fly came about..........

Mark - I know exactly what you mean. Devastation beyond words, beyond comprehension...
Have you ever watched a movie called "Ponyo"? It is a beautiful movie, featuring hand drawn animation by a Japanese artist/director Hayao Miyazaki. There is a scene in the movie with these gigantic waves, which remind me a lot of the tsunami wave. I will not be able to watch this movie again, without thinking of the tsunami.

Re: Artistic JazzFlies
Mark, it's interesting that the last couple flies had a very disciplined, Japanese look to them. The first (of the last three) like a Samurai costume/dress overall effect, and the second more like a 300-400 year old minimalist Japanese painting...maybe even aspects of the brush, and then this...highly emotional, debris in motion is a good way to put it, fly that does capture a lot of the energy. The calm, the history and then the storm. Glad to see you're posting pics again. It's been awhile.

Hi Mark,
The world is not to big anymore: one fly with feathers from America, The Netherlands and about the tsunami in Japan: well done, it looks like an explosion of feelings.
Greeting

You continually amaze me, Mark, with your creativity and the way you blend diverse materials. Each fly is a work of art.

Re: Artistic JazzFlies
Thannkx guys.....i actually found a better pic, (of the Tsunami fly), which allows you to see the hooks a bit and shows most everything (especially the dubbed front portion of the body), even more clearly.........but i spose this pic will do. i'd rather get on to other things. Looking at the Tsunami fly just reminds me of how terrible things are in Japan right now.
So here's something that will take your mind to other places........it's on a Jens Pilgaard Artistic Hook. It's called, the Shirley Temple.....both because it reminded me of the little girl actress, AND the drink.
