Question 1 - How much are the spools selling for? I am interested in the Amber, Ash, Sherry Spinner and Straw colors.
Question 2 - Are the Scarlet and Crimson colors different. I was thinking they were the same.

Q#2. Scarlet is supposed to be #11A and Crimson #13 in this listing. Amber #6, Ash #10, Sherry Spinner #6B and Straw #2.

Q#3. I don't know how many of each he has left. "Several Ash and Sherry Spinner".

Q#4. Those colours are the ones listed in "Flymf-boken" (ISBN 91-971394-0-8) by Gunnar Johnson (close friend of Pete Hidy) and Anders Forsling. Gunnar writes that during the later years, Hidy used mostly Ash silk as tying thread (body silk varied naturally).Leisenring was said to choose silk colour to match the center list of the hackle and of course to create the right hue of the dubbed body.
The book is written in Swedish with a foreword in English written by another friend of Hidy's, Clayne F. Baker. At the end of the book, Pete Hidy presents "The Leisenring's Color & Materials Book" with a one page introduction and then Gunnar's colour photos of all the pages. That is the book Jim Slattery watched the other day. I am lucky enough to have this book in leather with cassette and a replica of a Hidy Hare's Ear Flymph on Mustad 94842.

Ray, I have a spool of cardinal, claret and dark claret. I wish these had numbers on them but I seem to have about 5 shades ranging from red to burgandy and with the variations over years (some are new, some are vintage) I really cant i.d. the numbers for you.

by the way, I just received 3 spools of what I believe are #16 or #20. Either light olive or olive. They are a beautiful shade and in great condition. I'll have tie a couple spiders and take some pics. Maybe someone can I.D. what they are.

He has Naples in only three colours; Black, Scarlet and Yellow...

The difference between #11A Scarlet and #13 Crimson could be compared to the difference between #7 Blue and #8 Purple. I have received the spools today and that genuine Pearsalls Card No. F.T. 8 where the shades are shown in actual silk. I hope to get all of it photographed this weekend in full daylight. It will not be easy to reproduce the real colours. The differences between #6 Amber, #11 Golden Olive (or Golden Yellow) and # 20 Light Olive are subtle.

I have no association with this company, I did not know of it until last week. I will pay full price for what I buy. As I understand it, this stock comes from an old, retired commercial flytier, Margrethe Thomsen, now 86. I think that Niklas Dahlin mentioned her in another thread. She knew how to store materals in a proper way.

I am as happy for this catch as for any from the stream. This tells you a lot about how crazy I am...
