Re: The upstream wet fly
Only just got it, but initial impressions are that it's well informed. Certainly well written and easy to read.willowhead wrote:i've been looking at this book.....does anyone know if it's any good?????

Re: The upstream wet fly
Could someone give a brief review of the book, once they have had time to go thru it?

Re: The upstream wet fly
Had to put it to one side for a while, but picked it up a couple of nights ago to try and finish reading it. My initial thoughts have been replaced with a sense of deja vu.
Initially I thought well researched and written, the book following the simple formula of so and so said this, then quoting the passage he said it in. But after a while I found it had become tedious and I haven't really read anything that I haven't read in several books before.
For someone unfamiliar with the thoughts and writings of Stewart, Pritt, etc, etc, I'd recommend it. But if you've already read books by or about these anglers then I'd say that it may disappoint you.

Re: The upstream wet fly
I received my copy last month. I like it. Much a its historical sections I'm already familiar with, it does have some details I haven't read before. The last 1/3rd of the book the modern era the 20th century was pretty good. I'm sure it was an expensive book to make as in binding cover boards paperstock and photos.
Re: The upstream wet fly
I'd agree. I'm only about half way through, but it's tough sledding. Even though I've read most of the stuff he's quoting, he jumps around so much that it's hard to tell who wrote what -- it just doesn't flow very well.scotfly wrote: For someone unfamiliar with the thoughts and writings of Stewart, Pritt, etc, etc, I'd recommend it.
