I know this isn't helpful, but keep looking for seal, there is no substitute. I have used many subs and none are quite right. I just don't want you to settle! :D

Feather Craft has a Seal blend. The best I have found is from a place in Paris, France. www.pechetruite.com. Steve Cookshill also has a nice selection that I have ordered him also.

Seal is one of those materials that can't really be substituted, but angora goat is probably the closest legal sub. Polar bear underfur works, but just try and get hold of some.

Arizona Simi Seal is not like seal at all, but it's great stuff for leeches, streamers and even nymphs.

PS I'm getting deja vu all over again... I think this might have recently been discussed (maybe on the old forum?).

As mentioned a few times above, call John McClain and get some. He bought a bunch of Russian army coats [that are filled with seal fur for insulation] and dyed all the colors himself. Probably the most talented dyer in fly tying, he can match and make anything. Not to mention one of the most giving and generous men in the materials world! CJ
