Glad you like it.....finding materials long enough and ways to make them "work" is a serious challange, when using really long hooks.....but really long hooks is a must unless you want the bead(s) to take up the entire body portion of a fly.....and i don't most of the time. i like a bead or beads to compliment and give guidence to the rest of the design.....but not nessessarily dominate. And finding ways for them to blend in, is fun..... i do like them to be a bit of a focal point.....but not to where they are what actually makes or breaks a work of art. The entire tye has to fit together and work as a complete piece.....just like any painting or sculpture.

this is just a test..........Mark and i are working on a way to retrive pics space......i have run out of room at the storage center (of this site) for any more pics...........so i'm trying to find a way to retrive more space by deleting old threads (in the various forum sections), that are/were full of unessessary pics. So guys, talk bout if you snooze, you looze. Hope you took your chance when the gettin' was good. Cause some threads are history.

At the risk of exposing a terrible mistake i made in tying this fly.......(lousey ribbing spacing on the back side which i didn't notice at the time, but which is easily fixable.....i think, lol), i'm posting these two different pics of a very recent fly, simply to illustrate part of my concept and to explain where i'm commin' from. In FACT, that mistake (which i will attempt to correct as best i can, lol), is a perfect example of what i'm refering to.
In art....as i life, there are mistakes.....(in my case on a daily basis quite often).....yet it is my beliefe that we should not nessessarily try to avoid making them, to the detriment of learning.....discovering.....even stumbbling, into/onto something important and terriffic. Mistakes come with the territory.........get over it. In other words, like many things we may not look forward to, they should be embraced at times as part of the journey, and it is the journey, not the destination that is important.
There's an old saying, "tryin' to get to my grits." Same as chasing the brass ring........lotta folks so hung up on the destination, that they completely forget to enjoy the journey. And since "no one moneky stops the show".....i gotta figure, it's the adventure of getting from point A to point B that is where most of the fun lies. You dig?
So here's a fly.....and i was PISSED OFF at myself for not having tyed a fly in two days, when i was tying this.....so it's a good example of a fly that was done fairly fast........i just wanted to finish it.........i wanted it DONE! if you can understand that.......?
Yet, the fact that it is two flies in one (so-to-speak)......is NOT a mistake. i very often (in fact, it's a built in design trait of mine quite regularly), purposefully do these works of art, with the two sides being very opposite, on purpose. For me, it makes no sense wasting the opprotunity to show the duality of most aspects of life, by simply repeating what's done on the front side of a fly, exactly the same way on the opposite side.....HELLO! Trust me, that's to easy.....and i find it boring. So here's the Ying and the Yang of a recent fly......such as it is.....
Oh Vivki.....there an insight into the regular and the irregular in all of this as well......maybe you'll get it better now.

It's still a beauty Mark even if it's not PERFECT. It's perfectly YOU! And it's not mistakes, it's learning experiences on the road to enlightenment!

Your getting it perfectly..........and it's not bout "split personalities"..........although it really matters not what you call it.......

it's bout, the complexities........within a world which is really black and white to a large degree......yet is complicated by a lot of grey area..............where very often, there doesn't need to be any......

you take a subject like crime.........well, you got your right and you got your wrong..........pretty simple. do unto others.....you know the drill.........
while at the same time.....when you look around and see what's goin' on........it's prefectly easy to understand "Why" we have criminals..........or perhaps better said...........those who violate the law.........and i'm speakin' world wide. i do not think in terms of countries or races.........
we got one race.....human race.
we got one world.....planet earth.
Case Closed.....

i tye these flies so that folks can have an alternative to looking at what is generally percieved as a craft.......that they might open their thinking and find an avenue for wider creative endevor......to bring them more deeply into a world of spiritual truth seeking.....to share what is of the upmost importantance at this juncture in our existance.........
as long as those who have the power to devide and conqure remain able to pull that off.......the suffering will continue, and we all pay the price.....
is that regular.....or irregular.....?
and Vicki.....your honest.....so not to worry...................other than about what kind of a world your children will inherit.

I might be wrong but personally I think regular is a bad word! And in art there is no right or wrong there is only a form of expression and perception. The artist expressing an idea that is riddled with their personality and the way in which the viewer perceives this. It often amuses me when an art scholar tries to tell us what an artist (especially a long dead artist) intended for us to see and feel when viewing a painting and all I can say is bull@#$% how can you know that and then proceed to tell me what I should feel or think? This thought may be offensive to some or perceived to be wrong but we are thinking creatures and can figure out what we think or feel for ourselves. If we can't figure this out then we likely missed the point anyway.

For those who don't realize.....my last statement/joke/kidding around chain pulling, was in response to Vicki's first sentance only.............later she added the rest.
Course i could say, what i said originally in it's simplicity and shortness, would still surfice..... .....but i won't. She's much to wonderful a person, even taking the time to be so kind as to response at all.
i agree with you very much so Vicki. And from our PM's over the last few months, i know you have a very keen insight as to what art is.....what life is all about.....and that which is most important to yourself. Thank you for your involvement and caring. Your amazing for all you do.
