Re: purple and snipes
Roy, I agree that both are lovely wee flees. Having said that, I'd grab the dark one from the fly box more often. Don't know why, it just floats my boat.

Beautifully done.
Ron, you said "float". I thought that was a forbidden word on this site.

I hate it when I think I'm buying organic vegetables, and when I get home I discover they are just regular donuts.

Where did you get the idea that wet flies, especially soft hackles, can't float?Old Hat wrote:Beautifully done.

In the days of horse hair lines/leaders they didn't have much choice but to float.
(I tie my snipe and purples on light wire hooks, in sizes 18 and 20, and fish them right on the film as midges.)

Is there something besides horsehair lines and leaders? Am I behind the times or something?

Yeah, silkworm gut works too, but it unfortunately sinks.Ron Eagle Elk wrote:Is there something besides horsehair lines and leaders? Am I behind the times or something?

Floating wets worked in the past, and they still work. One more trick in the repertoire.

Nice stuff Royster..
Re: purple and snipes
Thanks, guys,
the dark one is the preference of my trouts too
to float these you need to add a cork (aka bobber)
I'll have some on a finer hook too, so they sit on top.
