Greenwell Spiders

These are size 18 Greenwell Spiders. The last 4B hen cape I have is a Greenwell. I don't t use it often. I thought it would be fun to tie some smaller flies with it.

I saw two recipes for the thread. One was for Green like I used. The other recipe called for Primrose.

I use waxed yellow Ephemera silk. I got my recipe from John Shaner. I'm sure he uses Pearsall, I don't have any. By the time I got into it Pesrsall was long gone. I used to tie it in 14, 16, and 18. Now I only tie it in 14.

I favor primrose Pearsall's Gossamer. Sometimes I wax it with dark cobbler's wax, sometimes I don't. Effective fly either way. I usually tie it on a size 14 1XS hook like a Daiichi 1640.

Oh man! The fish will love those no doubt. The color is very attractive in the waters I fish here on the Front Range.
