Moody Rouge Soft Hackle
Hook - Mustad Dry Fly Hook/Model R50 (Size 12)
Thread - Superior Threads Kimono Silk (No. 313/"Ginger Flower")
Body - "Grapefruit" Wool Yarn Dubbing Blend (Hot Pink/Hot Yellow 50/50 Blend)
Tag/Rib = Tying Thread
Hackle - Hungarian Partridge (Dyed Dun)

Preparations for tying session:

This is the pattern I will submit for our ongoing swap (Pretty in Pink).

Note about dubbing blend: The body is dubbed with a special dubbing blend that was created by a Nick Pionessa. The blend is a fifty-fifty mixture of hot pink and hot yellow yarn, which has been chopped up and blended together. It looks like an intense grapefruit colored tups blend. Really nice stuff. Thanks Nick!

Ray, Howdy;

Nice lookin' fly ya tied there. Are there plans to 'test drive'
1 or 2 to see if they will produce? Take us along, been awhile.

I recently took pictures of these mayflies along Lake Chautauqua (southwestern NY).

With a few minor adjustments, I think I can tweek the pattern above to be a good imitation of this mayfly. Just loved the brightly colored body. Resplendent nature...

Ray, well done as always. It is fun for alot of us tyers to see a bug, then dress a pattern to mimic that bug. It is even funner when that pattern works.

My first thought when I say the mayfly was to add more red to my Tupps dubbing, and tye an Indispensable.

Well done sir.

Bill - I was wondering if this maybe one of Mark’s beloved Dorothea mayflies. Been meaning to ask (or look it up) but forgot (work’s been crazy).

Wayne - Indeed! I love trying to imitate (then fishing) an imitation of natural insect. Certainly a threat when fish respond. ALWAYS fun, no matter the outcome. Just adds another dimension to such a wonderful passion.

I believe that mayfly is a Stenacron (Light Cahill) spinner.
