Question - what is a "tyro"?

Thank you - but you are right, it is a slippery slope and you shoud look away. If you succomb to temptation, your other rods will gather dust and you'll start tying funny flies with the hackle pointing the wrong way.

Look away now. :o

You have been warned.

On the other hand, there probably isn't a better way to fish wingless wets!

That's right, Chris, "set the hook" with your last line...

I've already tyed a few with the backwards hackle, and recently it was on purpose (see links below). :D

Also, the Siberian Stallion hair should be taken from the tail when the horse is "ready for action". It's a hormonal thing I believe, for the best quality hair. I have read this in a couple places, can't remember where but I am sure it is Darrel Martin's book. I was fortunate to take his class "the antique angler" at the Livingston Show a few years back. I would recommend this course to all fly fishers. Just a joy.
I hate it when I think I'm buying organic vegetables, and when I get home I discover they are just regular donuts.

I don't think it's a good idea to stand behind a stallion that is ready for action plucking out his tail hairs :P

Just saying!

Hey, Guys!
I donate my time to teach out of Feather Craft as my "home shop". I was there yesterday and checked, confirming that horse hair is available! I saw some stock of white (nearly clear!), brown, chestnut, black and a blond, some of which appeared to be "natural colors"! There is also some that was dyed a nice October Caddis orange, a green color and a creamy yellow! Call in to Evan, tell him to turn around, and check as its on the shelf right behind his chair and across the walkway! He will be able to clarify if those are "natural" colors other then the three that I know are dyed. If its what you want, its at reasonable price! tell him that Pat said to hook you up!

P.S. Please accept this as a "non-commercial" advisement, as I am paid nothing for this "insider information!
