Andrew, I still think you could have extended the body to the theoretical barb point, estimating the average barb length, and considering it's location once bent...would have made all the difference.

William Anderson (Dub-ya), Howdy;
Picky, picky, picky... one or two wraps of thread won't make THAT fly look any better to the man what tyed it, or the several OTHER folks that stated their favorial opinions about it or mine either.
That's all I gots to say about that...

Re: Jackdaw and Purple
Hank, my humor is usual very dry and often subtle, but I would never have made such a rediculous criticism...nor would anyone here...it's just a very silly parody of folks who take their tying that seriously. Accuracy is important, specific types are interesting, counting wraps and being overly careful with the spacing of wire ribs is all fun. And if we can't make fun of ourselves...well, no one else would get it anyway. I have said many times how much I admire Andrew's tying and I am certain he understood the dry, overly critical responses as my attempt at dry wit. From this day forward, when you read anything that I write, you can assume there is either honest constructive encouragement or some form of humor lost on many and sometimes only to amuse myself.

p.s. I dont care for the emoticons, but in this arena, I would never have any other way of making dry comments without some taking me seriously. I rarely am, and sometimes a smiley helps. If you see one from me...it's only my attempt to convey that i'm being dry and dont want to be misunderstood.

William of course I do, and your dryness and wit is / was much appreciated... I shall not wink at this point for fear of stylistically irritating you.. oops!
It is a constant source of amusement to me quite how seriously some of us can take this game, and i can be one of them. However, now and again, I do reserve the right to stand back and have a good, long laugh at myself. And occasionally, at others too...

Agree completely, and after your initial post on the vanity thread, I came this close > < to just suggesting that you use a cheaper camera. However, there is art and artistry in fly dressing, and the flies you are tying now are amazingly well done.GlassJet wrote:It is a constant source of amusement to me quite how seriously some of us can take this game
The fish don't care, but the fishermen do, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.
Reminds me about a comment by a very well respected guitar maker (I forget who). When asked why he went to the pains and the detail inside the guitar, where no one would ever know if he was just a little sloppy, he replied "I'd know."
