Is pink the "secret sauce"?

Post by DarrellP » Sun Feb 12, 2023 8:48 pm

Tup's indispensable, killer bug, Hendrickson's, a ton of steelhead flies and lures, and a ton of Euro nymphs. Maybe a little pink is what we need to offer?

Pink works Iike a magnet for me, or scares the heck out of the trout. In my experience.

the winter steelhead guys around here all swear by pink... all they need are some steelhead to actually be able to fish.

In one of my books, the author said he was using the fly King of the Water and didn't catch a fish.
The next day he opened up his fly wallet and said the red dye on his feathers turned pink.

He used the flies and could not keep the fish off his fly.

So I have to say pink must be a very productive color.

I tied some pink Dolly Lamas for a friend going to Alaska. He thought they were a joke until he tried one. He had a Silver Salmon hooked up on the second cast. There used to be a guy in Oregon who swore he caught steelhead with nothing but pink floss on the hook shank and a bit of pink floss for a tail. Never saw that, so I can't swear to it.

The first day of my trip to Alaska I asked my guide what color fly I should use. He told me any color will work as long as it is pink.
