Needs a name

Post by Terrestrial12 » Thu Jan 05, 2023 5:40 pm

Recently I came up with what I thing is a really good chironomid pupa pattern. I believe I posted it here. Well I got to messing around and turned it in to an emerger. It's hard water season here but I think it looks really promising. If nothing else it's photogenic hahaha
If you want a materials list just holler but it's super basic

:o Dynamite! I am really impressed with the crisscross body work. Such a nice effect!

I’m reminded of the Shipman style emerger pattern.

Please post the recipe. This is definitely a “keeper”.

Great body work !
I think you may have put a handle on it in your OP
“ Hardwater Chironomid Emerger”

Just a thought,

Ok recipe is as follows....
Hook- curved emerger or klink
Silk- claret
Cdc- natural dun/white tip
Counter rib- pearl tinsel
Rib- fine Xsmall wire (copper)
Shuck- cdc
Thorax- Green peacock herl

Cut the tip out of 3 natural dun/white CDC feathers, stack them, draw all fibers up and together at the top into a nice little puff and tie in directly behind the hook eye. Working towards the tail cut 1 cdc feather off at an angle and wrap it down. When you get to the end cut off the second, wrap it down then the third giving you a nice gently tapered thorax and abdomen. Tie in shuck and ribs, build and tape the thread body, counter rib, regular rib, tie in and wrap peacock thorax, lift up the cdc puff and wrap a few turns of silk under it to prop it up, pull down a few fibers on each side to represent legs, tie them down with an additional turn of silk, whip finish behind the eye under the cdc. That's it, super simple. I also do these in brown and olive but I like claret a lot. Before you wrap the ribs you can cost the thread body in a penetrating head cement but I don't like the look of coating the whole body in UV resin. Hope this all makes sense. Holler if yall have any questions.

T-12,
Beautiful pattern indeed and equally beautiful recipe and tying sequence! I'm thinking "Emerald Emerger"! Your handiwork is incredible! This pattern should be framed!

DOUGSDEN too kind as usual sir!! letumgo mentioned dynamite earlier in the thread so because of that I've been calling it the suicide bomber. Seems like a reasonable and not at all offensive name haha.
