I'm liking the hackle on this one very much.

Is that a hot spot I see next to the tail?

Not a hot spot per se, but the fur was a little more reddish on that section and the thread under color is showing through the thinner application of dubbing as it will even more when wet.

Fur Dubbing, Undrcolor and Translucence are part of the keys to flymphs as described by Hidy on page 6 of this Open Letter to the International Society of Flymph Fishermen in 1973 http://www.flymph.com/html/456.html

Very nicely done Roadkill! Could you elaborate some on the fox dubbing? Is this underfur pulled or raked out? It looks awesome.

Nothing special just fur coat scraps treated this way.

Guard hairs and all. One trick is to moisten your fingers to twist it on the tying thread for a tapered body.

A blue mole skin is my next target.

Thanks Roadkill, as a bona Fide senior citizen I have got to start looking for deals or alternatives to some of my fly tying materials. I’m fortunate enough to have a friend who is a hound guy and has friends who are trappers and predator hunters. He got me a beautiful muskrat skin last month and I’m going to ask about a fox skin. I was a avid duck hunter until about 6 years ago, like a dope I didn’t save feathers and wings. I’m definitely going to have to start collecting feathers and skins .

Both are killers. I need more mottled hen
