A well tied fly might deserve, but doesnt need head cement.

I have used Sally Hansen's on Salt patterns. I have used super glue, but some turns opaque. I have old fashioned fly tying cement that is clear, but has strong fumes. Epoxy yellows and is a pain. I have a hard time controlling UV resins on small flies. I am trying liquid fusion for streamers, now. AK Best recommends laquer. I struggle...on fishing flies I have been double whip finishing. Streamers are the exception.

One of my old fishing buddies used to use water based polyurethane (min-wax in a blue can). A pint lasts forever, non-yellowing, soaks into the thread and goes on white so it's easy to see, but dries clear and doesn't yellow. Just sayin...

I agree. When I tie a fly that I am particularly proud of I use resin by Loon, the thin resin because it's easier to work with or Solareze which I'm still trying out.

But like many of you, the flies I fish I may just use Hard as Hull or Sally's nail finish.

It is a matter of choice. I take my lead from salmon fly tiers and bamboo rod makers. Spar varnish.

That might sound kinky to someone who doesn't tie.
