After talking to my fishing buddy Ken who just had a good time with a hot spot Prince Nymph on our old Eastern Oregon home water, I thought I would tie some of my old favorite simple peacock brown & gray hackles with hot spot thread.
I decided to do some research on Peacock patterns in Andrew Herd's Trout Fly Patterns 1496-1916 V2.
I came across this simple little fly from William Shipley's A True Treatise on the Art of Fly-fishing, Trolling, Etc, 1838 and just had to tie some first.
Directions:
Peacock herl for body; a blueish-dun hackle for legs. To be dressed with greenish Pomona silk.

Hook-Dai Riki Model 70 #16
Thread- #395 Kimono Silk
Body-Peacock
Hackle-Whiting Natural Medium Dun Hen
Next my tie will be an 1807 Peacock Hackle with red silk and hackle. to test with the HS peacock brown & gray hackles.

Re: Peacock Fly
Wonderful stuff, Bill. Nice to see a recipe dating back that far. I get a kick out of fishing old patterns.
Happy hooking!
