New Book / "Trout Spey & The Art of the Swing" by Steve Bird

Post by letumgo » Mon Jul 11, 2022 8:03 pm

I came home today and had a new book waiting for me on the kitchen table. Earlier this year I ordered a first edition copy of our friend Steve Bird's (UC Steve) book entitled "Trout Spey & The Art of the Swing" (ISBN 978-0-578-38893-9/Published by Swing the Fly Press)

I stood in the kitchen paging thru the book, saying "Wow!" with each new section. I can tell already this is a wonderful book.

Steve - Congratulations on the new book. What a gem!

PS - I saw that you had mentioned our friend Bill Schuck in the tying section. He would have been deeply honored.

I am half-way through this book already! It is a great read and I highly recommend it. If you are remotely interested in spey casting for trout, this book is a must have.

Thanks for the kind words, guys.

Ron, you haven't received your book yet? If you don't get it within the next couple days let me know & I'll look into it.

Those who read TS&TAOTS may recognize that many of the fly dressings given in the fly catalogue section are informed by what I've learned in following this forum. What we are studying here represents advanced bait-making. I can attest, & I'm extremely grateful for that.

Steve, the post office says it will be here Friday. No worries.

Holy Cow. You must have some pull, Steve. My copy arrived in yesterday's mail. I agree with Ray. This is a beautifully photographed book and very informative. I can definitely see the influence of flymph tyers, as you mentioned. Well done, my friend.

Well, after seeing this thread I had to order a copy also. Looks like a beautiful book. I'll be learning more about spey casting also. :)
