Fiery Brown/Sunset
Hook - Partridge Heavy Single M2 (Size 10)
Thread - 8/0 UNI-Thread (Red)
Rear Body - Jaimeson's Spindrift Wool Yarn (Sunset/#186)
Front Body - Peacock Her (Natural - reinforced in dubbing loop)
Hackle - JimCo Hen Neck Hackle (Fiery Brown)
Head - Tying thread with SHHAN finish
I recently bought some new materials (hooks/hackle/yarn), and today I had time to play around with them. The fiery brown grizzly hen hackle looked nice against the "Sunset" colored wool yarn. The hooks are heavy modified up-eyed limerick bend salmon hooks, in size 10. Beautiful little irons.
Variation on the theme: (added tail and claret dyed teal hackle)
Fiery Brown/Sunset (small steelhead pattern)

Lovely,
I would tie it with Fl Orange thread as well, showing a hot spot tag and head.
I am fond of Jed Davis book Spinner Fishing for Steelhead, Salmon and Trout and his research on what fish see. Including his hot spots on the inside spinner blades for steelhead that follow the lure.

Very nice!
I just put a fiery brown cape in my cart. Gonna get some of that yarn too. You gave me an idea to try to tie a Dette Iso nymph. I don't have a recipe, but I have a pic to look at. I think that yarn might work, I'll just have to fake it.

Thanks for the tip Bill. I will give an orange head a try.
Greg - The iso pattern sounds great. Please post pictures when you put it together. I love iso patterns. Somewhere in the tutorial section, there is an old thread about isonychia.
Funny you should mention Dette’s. That is who I bought the hooks from. They carry a nice selection of Partridge hooks.

Ray,
You are indeed the master of tutorial presentations! You bring them together so well! It is pleasing to follow along with you on your tying adventures! Both the irons from Partridge (thru Dette's) and the pattern you showed are impressive! Ah, steel head! Go get'm Ray!

Fish when you can, not when you should! Anything short of this is just a disaster.
