Re: Mcphails Micro-Glint
Do you have a preference between the two hooks? I’m leaning towards the bottom one, but am curious to hear your thoughts on them.
Lovely flies, btw.

The black finish does harmonize nicely with the body.

Wow Dubbn,
Talk about subtle beauty! Both ingredients harmonize nicely! I have to agree with you guys....the black finish hook gets the nod! Perfectly executed as always!
Got any more patterns in waiting? Keep it up Wayne!

Fish when you can, not when you should! Anything short of this is just a disaster.

I like the look of the black hook as well, on this pattern. To get close to what most would call a size 20, what size Firehole hook would you have to use?

Ron, I dont know that Firehole makes their hooks that small. I am glad you picked up on the size difference.Ron Eagle Elk wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 8:35 am I like the look of the black hook as well, on this pattern. Wayne,
I agree--the black hook looks better. I would like to know more about the spool of material. Is it Glamour Madeira, as used in Dorsey's Top Secret Midge, but in a different color than white? Also, where does the wax fit in? Are you dubbing something onto the spooled material?
Thanks- Ken

The material is a Madeira product. I have it in Purple and Gold as well. I mostly use it as leg material on size 20 and under baetis nymphs.FlyFisherMann1955 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 10:05 am Wayne,

It is a very slick material to tie with. Being slick, just a touch of wax when I tie in the collar, and when I whip finish makes it hold very well.

Re: Mcphails Micro-Glint
I too prefer the black hooks. Like these fashion designers say, black goes with everything, and it shows it in the photo.
As for hook size with Firehole, I think they have maybe two styles that go smaller than a 20, but don't quote me on that. I don't like the fact that Firehole's hooks are larger than other hook sizes and I'd like to know why they made them that way.
Well done DUBBN on those flies.
