Expensive but I vote for the C& F Design as well.
Re: Hackle Pliers
have to agree with Mr. bb here - the bulldog clips are unbeatable. Ditto for the test lead clip...
Soft and wet - the only way....
Re: Hackle Pliers
Otto clips are in the mail... small box... USPS may take a while to reach VA from OR....enjoy.

It's been a few years now, but I believe Winnie Dette had a few arterial clamps on her tying station.
I'm sure she would have loved those test lead clips if they were around at that time.
Walt seemed to prefer using those sausages he called fingers.

Re: Hackle Pliers
Goes to show that you can never have too many hackle pliers
Re: Hackle Pliers
Artery clips/clamps are the best. Before I came upon those I used the old Herb Howard model for years. Micro vascular clamps are the finest. Buy the good ones that are used in surgery, not the cheapos from Pakistan.
Standard fly tying hackle pliers can be made infinitely better by gluing emery cloth to one of the jaws.

Interesting subject. I have many different pliers but have found the Bull Dogs suit me fine the best. When I first started to go to the Catskill's I saw that Mary and Joe Fox were both using the BG's. I was able to snag a pair somewhere then a friend that worked in a hospital got me three more sets. I gave two away and I'm sure they are not being used.
If you look on line at surgical grade don't have a stroke like I did, $150.00 is a common price.
