Hello,
I was working on an idea, and was wondering if anyone knew of a dubbing that could form a really tight noodle, but then brushed out pretty buggy. Like squirrel is quite “buggy”, but even if sparse and spun tight the guard hairs will not make it look like a fine dubbing. A fine dubbing like mole will make a very fine noodle, but won’t be able to be teased out more than maybe fuzzy. It doesn’t have to be natural.
Thanks for any ideas!
Craig
Fine Dubbing that brushes out?

Try making your own dubbing blends.
Use your mole or other finer fur and add something that will brush or stick out. I make a series of dubbing colors mixing different colors of rug yarn snipped to suit my taste and blended with rabbit fur as a binder for the slippery yarn. Maybe try the mole mixed with Hare's Mask. Experiment with the proportions to get what you like.

Kapok and Antron works well for me…. Or try superfine dubbing ( which I suspect is kapok or very similar to..)

Fellows,
These are really rock solid dubbing combinations! Craig, I hope you find them as useful as I do! Ah, proportions! Keep track of them as you experiment! Once you find the right recipe, write it down! Then blend a bushel basket of it!

Fish when you can, not when you should! Anything short of this is just a disaster.

Field mouse should work - unless I misunderstood your query……
For small or larger flies???

Soft and wet - the only way....

The body can be varied by brushing it out or using a dubbing loop.

If you are taking fur dubbing off the hide, Belly fur will often give you a finer dubbing.
