Hook-Mustad 79580 #6 (any 4X long nymph hook)
Bead- 5/32 Brass
Thread-UTC 140 Rust Brown
Tail- Brown Rubber Legs
Body-Hare-Tron made out of twisting 2 dubbing loops together to make one variegated loop. I alternated 3 pinches each of Golden Brown & Seal Brown on one loop and 3 pinches of Dark Brown and Black on the other dubbing loop. After twisting up each loop I put both loops on one dubbing hook and wound them together to make the variegated combination.
Thorax Hackle and Hackle- Whiting Brahma Hen Saddle dyed Golden Straw

Wrap a thread base to the rear of the hook.

Tie in the rubber leg tail.
ImageRIMG1780 by William Lovelace, on Flickr

Make a dubbing loop.
ImageRIMG1783 by William Lovelace, on Flickr

Make a second loop, secure both loops on the hook and move the tying thread to where you want the thorax hackle to start.
ImageRIMG1784 by William Lovelace, on Flickr

Move one loop out of the way on a dubbing tool to the material clip.
ImageRIMG1786 by William Lovelace, on Flickr

Load the first loop with alternating dubbing colors of your choice for your bug.

Twist up the loop into a dubbing rope. Switch it with the empty loop and make the second loop with your other contrasting colors.
ImageRIMG1790 by William Lovelace, on Flickr

You can compare the 2 loops for length and combine them on one dubbing tool.
ImageRIMG1792 by William Lovelace, on Flickr

Twist up the 2 loops together.
ImageRIMG1795 by William Lovelace, on Flickr

You now have a variegated fur chenille to wrap up the hook.
ImageRIMG1797 by William Lovelace, on Flickr

Tie off at the start of your thorax hackle.
ImageRIMG1799 by William Lovelace, on Flickr

Prepare your hackle to tie in on top of the hook.
ImageRIMG1801 by William Lovelace, on Flickr

Tie in the hackle and wrap the dubbing to the bead and tie it off and trim it.
ImageRIMG1803 by William Lovelace, on Flickr

Palmer on the thorax hackle through the dubbing and tie it off.
ImageRIMG1804 by William Lovelace, on Flickr

Prepare the front hackle.
ImageRIMG1807 by William Lovelace, on Flickr

Finish the front hackle. Add a little dubbing between the hackle and bead if needed.
ImageRIMG1809 by William Lovelace, on Flickr

Add a dab of head cement just behind the bead and you are finished.

Bill - Thank you for this excellent tutorial. The double dubbing loop technique opens up a lot of options. This is one of the best imitative stonefly patterns I’ve seen. We have golden stoneflies in some of the local streams.

Wonderful addition to our tutorial section. ;)

Ray,
I consider this just a new dubbing twist on the old favorite tied in the round Brooks Stonefly nymph. I may add some Ostrich gills around the hackle as well.

DUBBN,
This was the first try , I will play with size and color variations as well. Next trip to the river I think I'll take my kick net and try for a local sample. ;)

Almost identical ( in design) to my ITR Stone which is also taking Brooks’ ITR idea…. I do like the variegated body concept..

Has possibilities for all sorts…… 8-)

Johnno,

I would fish your fly anytime! 8-) One I put in the Guide fly category, easy to tie, effective, and nothing to cry about losing it in tough places to fish.

Excellent Bill. I’m going to play with this idea on some shrimp patterns.
I hate it when I think I'm buying organic vegetables, and when I get home I discover they are just regular donuts.

Carl - I’d very much like to see the shrimp patterns you come up with. Please post them, when you get play around with them.

Terrific pattern John. Thanks for sharing. ;)

Another slightly different version to reflect the colours of our local big stonefly..
