Previous thread discussing stripping of peacock herl.

Previous thread showing the location of different types of peacock feathers. The feathers that look like big blue eyes are used for the herl. The fibers in the eye section make nice herl "quill body".

The photo below shows the part of the peacock feather commonly used for herl "quill body" flies. Look at the location of the scissor point.

Howdy all;
Ray and W. thanks for clarifying the bit about quill.
(chuckle), yea Ray I remember now about the hurl an swords.
That was from just after I joined up here.
Like the pictorial about the 'stripping' tool, will work for me.
I like doin' things 'on-the-cheap'. One tool multi- uses...

Re: Quill Spiders...
No Hank, the Moose Mane is the body, lookes likes like a waxy hackle quill body, with beautiful coloring shift. This body would be a nice match for the Hendrickson Mark is looking for.

You're right. I had my body parts mixed-up. Thanks for the course correction.
Hate to put the thorax behind the body. Cart 'n horse kinda thing I reckon.
