Flymphs and Spiders (Tyed by Bill "Tie2Fish" Shuck)

Post by letumgo » Sat Oct 31, 2020 12:50 pm

This is a set of flymphs and spiders that Bill Shuck tied for me. I asked him to sign his name and screen name to a card with the set. This sits above my tying desk, for inspiration and in remembrance of an old friend.

I believe Bill was inspired to create this set of flies, after seeing the Orvis Flymph set while visiting John Shaner several years ago.

A beautiful set tied by a beautiful person. Thanks for sharing such great photos of this Ray.
I hate it when I think I'm buying organic vegetables, and when I get home I discover they are just regular donuts.

Ray - that is one of my personal favorite pieces of fly tying ephemera. Not only was Bill a great guy, he tied a mean fly. Somewhere along the line, I had that set in my hands, and I asked Bill to make me a set. But he couldn’t tie anymore; explaining to me that the last set of flies he tied was for Mike Vallas book.

One thing about Bill that stood out was his talent level. He has not been tying flies and fishing that long, but he rose right to the top - globally, there are very few people that can match his skill at the vise.

Dana

PS - AWESOME POST!!

I don't know the gentleman or ever heard of his name, but the way you all speak of him he must have been someone special.

Those are lovely looking flies, and I see why you have them sitting at the top of your desk. You must be honored to have them.

Fishnkilts, Howdy;

You might like to read the very top posting in the "Fishing Cabin" Forum. All the way to the top.

Beautiful set of flies, Ray--Bill was the real thing--generous in so many ways, welcoming, and a very nuanced tier. I love his Conover flymph--perfect for Isos on the Ausable.

Thanks for posting this, let's maybe see more boxed collections here? Dana? Carl?

I have a set that Bill tied also. I'll have to take a picture and post it.

I'm not sure but I believe the display I have is the same one Ray has. I'd post a picture if I could figure out how. I think I just did
