Fieldfare anyone have some Fieldfare feather that can afford to part with

Post by Bazzer69 » Wed Sep 23, 2020 11:47 pm

If the answer is yes could you pm me? I would expect them to be be pre ban of course. I’m trying to tie a number of old patterns to put in a shadow box so a single feather will suffice.
Thanks

Sorry Barry, that's one bird that has escaped my collection! I remember looking thru Pritts and Edmonds and Lee's epic tomes and seeing Fieldfare listed more than a few times in the recipes! It must be marvelous stuff!

Barry

As far as I can find, it's been outlawed in the UK for quite awhile. If you're tying the Filedfare Bloa, I just subbed a medium to dark gray hackle like Moorhen.

Yes it’s for the Bloa, I only need a couple of feathers at the most. You see I’m planning a shadow box With as many of the Pritt patterns I can find materials for. I have a Dotterel that I can take a few feathers off and swap.
I envy Robert Smith and all his pre ban materials 🙏

No Fieldfare hackles but used the Turmeric dyed Valley Quail hackles to do a few of Mr. Pritt's #26 - Olive Bloa.

I really like the hackle color. What a lovely subtle (natural) olive dun color. Very well done.
