Re: Midge Emerger
Does catching 10 inch Browns count as caught fish?
The Partridge and Yellow accounted for, I am guessing, 40 little Brown trout in the first hour and a half. Not one was over 10 inches. I started catching them 50 yards from the raft put in point and stopped about 70 yards from the put in point. I had two rods rigged for the float. One designated for nymphing. The other for Wets. I had the little Yellow wet and a Muskrat set up on my soft hackle rod. Every fish took the Yellow fly. I had to use up my supply(4) of the Partridge and Yellow as they were all destroyed by the little Browns. A down and across swing was used.
The Brown in this photo was the first fish of the day. I think it ate the Muskrat and the Yellow and Partridge
After that fun start to the float, I went to my nymphing rod for the most part.
I set it up with a beaded redquill nymph, size 16.
A Buttcrack Baetis in Wine or Black colors (YouTube ButtCrack Baetis Duane Redford), size 20 to 16.
The little size 22 BWO Softhackle was put on after those.
The number of fish went down, but the size went up. The Browns were 14 to 18 inchers, and the Bows were averaging 17 inches. I caught a couple White fish in the 22 to 24 inch range. I probably caught 16 more fish after I went to nymphing.

Soft Hackels from the top of the water column to the bottom.

You are a genius, sir.
Re: Midge Emerger
I quite like those heavy wire long shank nymph hooks that you’re using. The heavy hook helps get the fly down in the water column a little bit, and makes a big difference at certain times. What is the exact brand and model number?
Thanks,
Dana
