Leftover Grouse
These spiders were tied from the hackle tips left from the Brown Drake Nymphs (see Nymph page).
2x heavy, short nymph hook. Watery Olive UTC 70. Split-thread bleached ginger possum. 3 turns of leftover grouse. the hackles are a little big for my tastes, but they’ll fish.
Re: Leftover Grouse
Watery Olive was a pretty cool thread. Shine your UV light on it. It really pops!

Hankinsfly, Howdy;
My Mother's cooking left a bit to be desired so Leftovers, always mixed
with something else, generally ended-up being the more looked forward
to meal. She was a terrific Baker tho.

I don't think the legs are too big, but I would say they are at the limit. But as is, everything looks balanced in my opinion.
I'd fish them without any concerns.

Very nice work there Mr. Hankinsfly......... I too, save the tips of certain feathers and use them for other flies!These spiders were tied from the hackle tips left from the Brown Drake Nymphs

Re: Leftover Grouse
Speaking of left over grouse... I have piles of wings and tails from last year if anybody would like some. Bird season opens this Saturday here in Maine and I'm only going to collect more. God, I love bird season.
I had a couple of beautiful 'red phase' birds that I had promised to Dana, only to have my homicidal barn cats utterly destroy them before I could send them off. What I have is the usual gray to grayish brown. No full skins, sorry, I'm not good at peeling them like that.
PM me with addressesesess if anyone is interested.
