Ahhh yes ... the slippery slope. I fish bamboo rods pretty much exclusively these days and own a handful that fit both my cast and my preferences of "feel". Two weeks ago, fishing with the Forum Ghillie on Soda Butte Creek in Yellowstone...

The Forum Ghillie is truly a remarkable angler. That inauspicious run along the far bank came alive with rising trout about two hours after the ghillie released his trout. Gray Drakes and PMDs hatched in abundance. How did the ghillie approach this pinch-me-I-can't-believe-this-is-true situation? He packed up his rod and walked away, because he "had to be somewhere". Big fish rising in a feeding frenzy, over 1,000 miles from home, and he had to be somewhere! Somewhere more important than rising trout??? I said, "John, snap out of it! Those are big fish rising!" But, the man has determination and will power. I can only imagine how fabulous that next appointment must have been. What a guy! I stepped into the ghillie's spot and caught fish after fish for the following hour or two.

Ray,
The camera is a mainstream point-and-shoot waterproof camera (Olympus TG-5). I edited the original a bit by twiddling the knobs on a photo editing program.

This photo (also edited) probably shows better what the camera can produce, because the photo was taken on a sunny day. It has better contrast than the photo above, which was taken on a cloudy day.

John & Phil,

I loved looking thru the photos of your trip. Thank you very much for sharing them with us. This is fly fishing at its best. Good friends. Good food. And even better fishing. Nirvana.

I hope to meet you both someday, under similar circumstances. ;)

I've pretty much always fished bamboo. I'm not sure I'd feel right fishing anything else. lol

Really nice photos of your guys adventure - Thanks for the ride!

Also: You’re Orvis Battenkill is probably one of the very best bamboo rod values to be had. Good luck with it!
