Dark Pupa (muskrat seal and teal)
Dark Pupa
Hook - Daiichi Model 1150/Size 12 (1X strong scud hook)
Thread - 8/0 UNI-Thread (Red)
Rib - Heavy Orange Wool Thread
Abdomen - Muskrat & Seal Dubbing Blend (multi spectral blend - a little bit of 12 colors of seal dubbbing)
Thorax - Wool-Ease Chuncky Yarn Dubbing (Walnut/127)
Hackle - Teal (Natural)
The teal feather fibers were to long for the size 12 hook. I decided to clip the fibers off the stem, then tye them in as a cone over the thorax. I used my thumb nail to push the fibers around the hook to even the distribution of the fibers. Once happy with the placement, the fibers are locked in place with several firm wraps and the excess (butt ends) trimmed off.
The color scheme reminds me of Carl's (Old Hat) Fade Series of flies. One of my favorites.

Re: Dark Pupa
Ooo, I love that idea! It may even be easier to tye in the hackle fibers that way too.
Thanks Bill.
Thanks Bill.

Very nice, Ray. Like it a lot (translates to "I'm stealing that one.") I've been using that hook quite a bit and it's held up well.

Ray, Howdy;
Jumped out at me as a fuzzy Dark Watchet kinda sorta.
I like it, not that that makes it special ...

The contrast between the body and the hackle are striking; that fly just pops off the page. Very nicely done, Ray.

Beautiful! I can see a lot of engineer thinking in this design. Can't beat those spectral dubbing mixes.
I hate it when I think I'm buying organic vegetables, and when I get home I discover they are just regular donuts.

Dana - Now that you say that, your absolutely right. I may have been channeling your tying lessons from earlier.
