Dirty Rat Nymph
Dirty Rat Nymph
Hook - Daiichi 1710 Nymph Hook (Size 14)
Thread - 8/0 UNI-Thread (Light Cahill)
Rib - Belding Corticelli Pure Silk Button Hole Twist (Pinkish Tan)
Abdomen - Dirty Rat Dubbing Blend (muskrat underfur/pale apricot; seal fur/yellow; seal fur/red) - roughly equal proportions
Tail/Dorsal Strip - Five or Six Pheasant Tail Fibers (Natural Dark Brown)
Wing Case - Five Strands of Peacock Herl (pulled over the back of the thorax - creating impression of bursting wingcase)
Thorax - Wool-Ease Chunky Yarn Dubbing (Walnut/127)
Hackle - Hungarian Partridge Flank (Natural Brown Barred)
Materials are listed in the order they are used/tyed in.
A couple close up photos of the "Dirty Rat" dubbing blend. The color of the dubbing blend looks slightly different, depending on the intensity of light. A feature that I think will work well, in a fishing fly. The combination of muskrat underfur, blended with dyed seal fur, has a nice translucency and natural camouflage quality. I really like how natural the color blend looks in a nymph pattern. Definitely worth exploring some more.
Direct sun (bright sunlight)
Partial sun (partial shade)
Indoor Incandecent Light

Re: Dirty Rat Nymph
That bursting wingcase is the ticket for that pattern.
The majority of my wing cases are now Black or Peacock.
If I were nymphing, Euro, Tight Line, or under a bobber (indicator) I would have this as my top fly. It would work well as an attractor, emerger, cripple, or drowned adult.
You have many built in triggers on this pattern, Ray.
Well done!!!

Have to agree with DUBBN - Lots of triggers in this! Very nice job.

That is so fishy, there's no other words to describe it.
