Ray Letumgo's dubbing Rocks!
Heya Folks,
I've had this hand written labeled packet of dubbing for years! My good friend Ray sent it to me and I've for one reason or other never used it before, shitty friend I turned out to be. I've never tied a tups wet fly before nor fished one. Just not a pattern I'm familiar with but I've loved seeing some of the renditions offered here and elsewhere.
Well I pulled my finger out and decided to finally tie my first and only Tups indispensible to date...
Thanks Ray

Ray keeps coming up with these dubbing blends, tying techniques, and ways to use non-fishing materials to make some killer flies. We're lucky to have him around. Keeps the rest of on our toes.
Very nicely crafted Tups. Nice and sparse. Great photos too.

The joke is on you. That was actually a bag of bellybutton lint and back hair.
(kidding/twisted humor)
Actually, the dubbing blend is a custom wool blend that Mike Valla wrote about in one of his Catskill Dry fly books. Mike gets all the credit for the wool Tups blend. Good stuff. I just had to try it on wet flies (sunk dries).
Phenomenal dressing. I hope you try fishing that in your local NZ streams.

S#!t Ray you could have told me not to lick my fingers when using your dubbing! I thought Americans were all about warning labels
I own that book, Just far too lazy to source the wool, cultivate the belly button lint and too old to reach my back hair. Thats's why I have friends like you
It's a lovely blend m8, makes my fly look cool
I'll fish it for sure, if I'm ever allowed out to play again!
Sadly I think our season is done...

I was forgetting that you guys are heading into fall/winter (tying season). Start filling a box, and you’ll be ready when spring returns.

The more I study this fly, the more I love the hackle. The coloration is so lovely. Is that a honeydun? Did you buy that on your trip out west?
