Pritt's #35 Dotterel

Post by joaniebo » Tue Oct 27, 2020 12:24 pm

Did a few of these using a Dotterel sub received many years ago from Ellis Slater and I opted for orange silk.

35. DOTTEREL.
HOOK – No. 1
WINGS – Hackled with a feather from the outside of a male Dotterel's wing.
BODY – Straw-coloured silk; some anglers prefer Orange silk.
HEAD – Straw-coloured or orange silk.

Marvelous!

Question - What hook models/sizes did you use? Looks like two different types.

Ray

Same types, but size 14 and 16 ...all Daiichi #1550 hooks. Most times I use the Daiich #1550 or #1530 hooks or the Mustad 3906 or 3906B hooks for soft hackles. If I want a really light hook, I often times use a Daiichi #1190.

That being said, you really wouldn't believe all the different hooks I have on hand but seldom / never use.

Bob

PS - thanks for the compliment. I try as mush as possible to do the old dressings as close as this OLD guy can (with full hackles!)

I have to say, they look too good to the point that they don't look real. Fantastic flies.

Very classic looking. NICE!
I hate it when I think I'm buying organic vegetables, and when I get home I discover they are just regular donuts.

Don’t we all !!!!!
Most of us have enough hooks & material for our children’s children CHILDREN to tie and fish!!
