Black Caddis
Hook - Daiichi Model 1710 2 XL Nymph Hook (Size 12 & 14)
Thread - 6/0 UNI-Thread (Red)
Tag/Rib - Button Hole Silk Thread (Fawn/Tan)
Abdomen - Three strands of Peacock Herl (Natural)
Thorax - Wool Ease Yarn Dubbing (Walnut/127)
Hackle - Hungarian Partridge (Dyed Dark Blue Dun)

Optional Variations:
- Add a single strand of yarn, hanging out over the eye of the hook. This can be dressed with floatant, to create a suspended pattern to fish in the surface film. Sometimes it is nice to have a dark colored sight post, when there is a lot of glair on the water.
- Add roughly 1/3rd of a strand of yarn, hanging out the back end of the hook. This will serve as a tailing schuck. Again, to give a little more movement to the fly, and offer fish some options.

The inspiration for the fly came from the fly in the Flymph Forum logo (above). I've often looked at that logo and wanted to create a fly pattern that matched the profile. Although this is not a flymph, it could easily be adapted into a flymph version using all yarn dubbing. I just liked the look of the peacock herl body better.

Really nice, Ray, and well timed. I'll be at Campfire in a couple weeks. The last time I was there I would come back from eating dinner in town to find the RV covered in small, maybe size 14 , dark brown to black caddis. I'll be tying few of these, along with some White Millers, before the trip. Trip report will follow.

I like using the button hole twist as a rib instead of copper wire, which tarnishes.

Love the colors you chose Ray! Should be a great pattern for you. It is very similar to Syl Nemes' "Dean's Black" pattern. Peacock abdomen, silver rib, black wool thorax and partridge dyed dun hackle. Great minds think alike!

That does sound like a very similar pattern. Bodes well for the potential success of this fly.

The Dark Blue Dun (dyed) Partridge skin is super good looking! I gotta have one!
The patterns you show are really good looking! You did (as always) a terrific job in bringing them together in the best possible way! Dark patterns with silver ribbing have always done well for me on Bluegill especially on darker colored waters around my neck of the woods! Your variations would not be scorned by my locals Ray!
It is a pure joy just to look upon these! Great job friend!
