Nothing special about this Grouse and Orange other than it’s large and tied full (#8 2xh 1xl). I use it during the October Caddis hatch with some success and also pick up the occasional summer steelhead. Tied with Ruffed Grouse hackle, orange floss and light hares ear thorax.

Any specific orange floss (especially non-Pearsalls still available brand/color)? Looks like copper wire too? Nice fly, well tied

Excellent looking large PO. We have had some great discussions on this forum about the efficiency of larger soft hackle patterns. I have fished a lot of them for steelhead while catching trout as a biproduct. Not really matching hatches as steelhead flies but the trout take them quite often.

Welcome Pitonboy,
Lots of floss available. Kimono 100 and YLI make good silk tying thread as replacements for the Pearsall's. Both are relatively easy to find.

Very nice dressing. The Ruffed Grouse hackle looks great. I could swear that I had some of the RG hackles somewhere in my boxes but heaven knows what happened to them.
