Fuzzle Flymph

When I was in Bozeman area I came across an extra small crystal chenille by UTC that was sold on spools. Karsten (fly fisha) introduced me to fuzzle flies years ago and I have found them very productive especially the Fuzzle Tadpole and Fuzzle Bugger as well as my version of a Fuzzle Minnow. When I saw this small chenille I immediately thought fuzzle flymph. I bought a few colors and here we go. Basically, using a normal dubbing technique you add the dubbing directly to the chenille, spin, wrap and brush it out. It takes a little practice to get it right but a very simple process. I don't know what the official Fuzzle Dub material is but I have found that long fibered acrylic yarn is a great substitute.

I found it under 2 different names. MFC has it as Micro Lucent Chenille and UTC has it as Micro Herl Chenille. Both are a crystal chenille about 2mm diameter. I found the MFC stuff at Galloup's Slide Inn and the UTC at Arrick's in W. Yellowstone. You just dub a good amount of dubbing right onto the chenille and brush it out.

It was great. Bob joined Ronr and I at Jim’s for about 3 days. We had a nice time and fishing was good. Even a great Tuesday Tying night. We fished the west fork and mostly between the lakes. Caught some nice fish and lost better ones.

Carl - Could you post a picture of the chenille materials you used for the body?

Excellent adaptation of the Fuzzle technique. Why hadn't I thought of this!?

This is the Wapsi (UTC) Herl Chenille in root beer that I used. I liked the Wapsi colors better. They seemed a bit more translucent.

Carl, what kind of fiber length does your fuzzle yarn have? I have small packages of most colors of Aunt Lydia's Sparkle Yarn that I haven't touched in years. I'd like to chop up a bit and see how it does.
