Hackle-Natural India Hen Back

This is a Soft Hackle I created by adding Natural India Hen hackle to a nymph (Micks Scruffy) I recently found in a Sport shop in the Snowy River area of Australia.I don't know what the original materials are even after a Google search for the original fly.

The original tail looked like it might be black possum fur, so I just ordered some black squirrel tail to try as a sub. In the meantime some hen fibers are also used for the tail. I made the body dubbing out of a blend of Olive Hare's Ear+ (2/3) and Tan Hare's Ear + (1/3).

Gorgeous fly, Bill. Definitely a lethal combination.

Were you recently traveling in Australia? Do tell...

Beads... love em...a bit of flash, contrast,"gas bubble", who knows... but soft hackles with a bead head, thorax, or even an egg sack, do seem to work in our part of the world..

My kind of fly; Doesn't imitate anything specific, yet looks like a lot of different things that are good to eat! Nice job! :D

Exactly, looks like a bit of anything and everything. It is a definite hedge better.

Same Fly... updated tail!

i got the squirrel I ordered and tied one fly but the squirrel was stiffer hairs than the original nymph. So the current tie uses some Australian Possum for the tail. It still doesn't match the original but it should fish. ;)

Indeed, it should fish extremely well...
