For some reason I like blue flies. When I started tying and fishing for sea trout I used blue materials to imitate sand eels. I've kept the love of blue-ish tint and used it for my brown trout fishing as well. Now we normally don't consider blue to be an insect colour, though I have caught a few trout using blue-ish soft hackles.

Tonight I tied a few partridge and blue flies with some mole dubbing. Even though these were not photogenic ties (crappy hackle), the camera was nearby so I took a shot. I put the fly on the mole skin and directed the light source. I hope you can see in the picture what blueish effect I got from the mole skin with the light bouncing at the fibres. Unexpected

blue is also one of my favorite colors. Whenever I find something dyed blue I buy it, even synthetic.

I’ve experimented with blue spiders Martin. Very similar to yours. I have had luck with them on trout in very clear water. Not so much in turbid off color water.

I used Partridge and Blue spiders on the Henry's Fork last summer. Had some good hook ups. Figured the fish had never seen them.

One of my prized possessions is a wooden spool of blue Pearsall's Gossamer silk, which you helped me get my hands on many years ago. Blue was one of the hardest colors for me to find. Thanks for your help.

I will add some of your lovely Partridge and Blue Mole flies to my spring selection.

After enjoying some Dove chocolate truffles two Holiday seasons ago I kept the blue wrappers and I tied some starling and blue soft hackles with it. I even sent some to a friend who wanted some. If i remember correctly, blue is a color that is still visible deeper in the water column too.
